Great Bachelor Pads - High Tech Gadgets Meet Old World Richness

By Georgette Pauls Do you watch TV? Do you have a computer? We all want that stuff in our bachelor pad. Don’t we? We don’t plan to start pretending we’re not using them, either. They are important to us and realistically take center stage in our spaces in spite of the decorating police! However…With the advent of less bulky computer monitors and TVs we now have decorating options we’ve never had before. Mom and Dad didn’t have the options we do. They couldn’t have adapted an antique or antique reproduction secretary/desk as a functioning desk with a computer. It would have been impossible to fit a BIG TV into an art deco armoire. Most old armoires are 18 inches deep and the TV would need 2 FEET! WE WANT BIG TVs! For guys, bigger is better! It’s impossible to have a great movie experience without a big screen. But now things are different. Modern equipment can find homes in smaller furniture, the kind that has been built for hundreds of years. Start looking for possibilities. Look inside and underneath older furniture to see better quality than new. A solid hardwood cabinet will be constructed better and hold up better than many newer “entertainment units” and may be cheaper, too. The best stuff for our purposes is older furniture that is well built but not too expensive. You can remove shelves and adapt furniture with perfect freedom. Consider furniture that needs minor repairs or refinishing. Black paint can do wonders. Old furniture is often less expensive than people would expect. It will frequently go for about 10 cents on the dollar of initial cost. Don’t tell your girlfriend. She’ll argue about it. Women think furniture is way more precious than it is. Just look for good useful shapes that will compliment your interiors or bring them an air of distinction. Don’t pay for “Fine” antiques or custom cabinets when good reasonably priced furniture is available every day if we look in the right places. Garage sales, junk stores, hotel salvage and used furniture stores are all filled with possibilities. Plan to bargain with the seller. Haggling is desirable. You want the best price. You can even cobble something together from remnants, like one china cabinet base to another breakfront top. For our purposes we want serviceable stuff for reasonable prices. Save the big money for the electronic equipment. The only limitation is that remotes still need to send a signal. They need a clear sight line to a piece of equipment. The good thing is that many older, elegant pieces have glass doors on them…or you can retrofit some…or you can let the doors stand open. Wireless technology has come a long way, too. Now you don’t necessarily have to rebuild walls after running speaker wire for surround sound. But we would do whatever we had to do to get the picture and the big theater sound we want. Do we think surround sound is necessary? You bet! We want that theater experience. A big outrageous home theater has that incredible sound in a space that embraces you in opulence. Older furniture has the richness and quality that newer stuff just doesn’t quite match. You can really impress other people (maybe even women) with your elegant sophistication and/or creative spirit. It doesn’t have to be expensive and you can find almost any look you want. Primitive antiques can bring richness and warmth to hard contemporary interiors without compromising the minimalist look and esthetic. Mid century modern can handle a dose of Swedish modern from the same era without a ripple of alarm. A more sophisticated city look may just mean some black paint or a fine mahogany or cherry furniture centerpiece in a room filled with sophisticated restraint. The tech stuff insures you and your guests are well entertained in your comfortable space. It’s just easier to integrate into our lives now! Go out and find that special look you want. Your only limits are in your own imagination. Your can impress other people and make yourself look GOOD! Instead of spending most of your money on furnishings, you can spend it on the latest and best in electronics, a WIN WIN for a great bachelor space! Sklansky’s Gap Concept, and is it Still Relevant

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Marty_Smith]Marty Smith The Gap Concept is a widely understood principle amongst professional poker tournament players that figures this way, you need a better hand to call a raise with than you would need to open the betting yourself. For a simple example, if I am in middle position with AJs, and it has been folded to me, this is a good raising opportunity. However, holding the same hand on the button, facing a good sized raise from early position, this would generally be a fold, save for other conditions. This well known concept was introduced, and extensively discussed in David Sklanskys classic poker book, [http://www.pokerbookreport.com/davidslanksy.htm]Tournament Poker for Advanced Players. Since that publication however, the poker tournament world has dramatically exploded. Huge prize tournaments are ruled now by players seemingly willing to risk their whole tournament on inferior hands, or courageous/foolish bluffs. If you play in any tournament online you will know that 90% of the players would play AJs, and play it hard in the above situation. So can you be competitive in a contemporary tournament applying the Gap Concept? Well, yes, and no. In the early stages of a tournament where a three-times-the-blind raise still isnt that significant to the stacks, quality starting hand raises are going to get called by many players. The pros often do this, as a way of actually seeking out contentious confrontations while relying on their post flop play to take you off an often better hand. In fact, they want you to be ahead pre-flop, knowing that the odds of you hitting the flop are far less, than them being able to outplay you. This gives further credence to the Dan Harrington style super-tight play early on, which gives you the advantage of having the best hand preflop and post flop, making decisions much easier for you in later rounds. That situation however, requires you to play a long-ball style of game, being rather predictable. Its not a poor, or even ineffective strategy by any means, but a sure pick-off for bluffs, and limiting small pots. So when applying the Gap concept to your play, there are definitely other considerations to take into your counter-play adjustments. One of the major factors to is who you are actually playing against. What is the table collective on the tight/aggressive scale? What type of player are you up against? Is he maniac like, and how many times has he raised? Is it a standard late position steal? The stage of the tournament also dictates strategy changes that rank of desperation. For example, against a short stack coming in with an all-in raise from late position, I would consider calling with many more hands than normal, even if I figure to be an underdog. I just want to avoid being dominated here, not at all the normal Gap Concept restrictions. Another time I consider calling raises is when I am holding mid pairs and suited connectors when I am late in position, and the pot has terrific odds. When I say terrific odds, I mean a minimum six to one. That way, it will be a profitable play, for the early stages. In short, consider applying the gap concept in the early stages of the tournament and against known professional poker tournament players. You dont want to get caught in a post flop guessing game against them. Marty Smith is webmaster of http://www.PokerBookReport.com where all the poker books and writers are reviewed. Lack Funds to Buy a New Car? Take a Car Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Pranav_Das]Pranav Das Gone are the days when cars were included in the list of luxury items. Cars have become a necessity nowadays. With a remarkable increase in the living standard of people, cars have become an inalienable part of our lives. A car gives you the independence to commute at your own will. There are a large number of people who use cars for different purposes such as Office-goers, businessmen, students, small merchants, doctors, engineers and other professionals etc. But everyone is not satisfied with the car he/she possesses. Your car may be old and you want to replace it with a new one. Most of us want luxurious cars these days fitted with state of the art technology. But, the problem arises when many of such people willing to buy new cars fall short of finances. Taking a CAR LOAN is a wise option in this case. A CAR LOAN is specifically meant for your car-buying requirement. You may choose from among a variety of cars available in the market and apply for a car loan accordingly. When you want to avail a car loan you have two options. Either you can avail a secured car loan or an unsecured car loan. A secured [http://www.ask4loan.co.uk/car-loan.htmltarget=_blank]car loan is provided against collateral, which is usually your house. But, in case you dont have your own house or you dont want to risk your house, take an unsecured car loan. In a secured car loan you will be charged with low interest rate. The monthly installment will also be small and the repayment duration will be short. Whereas, in case of unsecured car loan the interest rates are a bit higher. The monthly installments are bigger and the repayment period is shorter. Since availing a secured car loan involves time consuming affairs like valuation of your house and paper work attached with it, more people go for unsecured car loans. This is also because they want to repay their debt in a short span of time and they dont want to risk their homes. In the UK, there has been a marked increase in the number of people who avail unsecured loans rather than secured loans. The process for getting a loan has also become easier with the advent of internet. Now, you can get a car loan sitting at home by just filling an online loan application form. You no more need to run after brokers or visit finance companies. A Revolution Has Come To Online Dating

By Lawrence Blake There is truly a revolution going on in the online dating services industry. And it is one that is far overdue. For years online dating has been provided by websites that provide access to dating profiles, addresses and emails for a monthly fee. Here is how it worked: 1. The subscriber signs up and pays a monthly fee on his credit card. This is a recurring fee that is charged each month whether or not the user is happy or even uses the service at all. 2. The user sets up his profile, puts out a picture and uses the site’s database of available singles to find someone to talk to in hopes of setting up an online date. 3. The website provides other services like articles and testimonials and of course lots of links to other sites where you can spend money. Dating Share is a true revolution in how online dating is handled. We have eliminated the monthly fees and a lot of the hassle and worry that online dating sites were known for. We adapted the same kind of service that you use for file sharing and downloading music to the online dating arena and are offering a truly innovative approach to dating online. With Dating Share the system is much less expensive and provides a lot more service to you. 1. You download the software and try it free for a trial period. Dating Share puts you in contact with online communities so you are in real interaction with others who are looking into online romance. Business Cell Phone Plans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dennis_Driscoll]Dennis Driscoll Business Cell Phone Plans Save Money Business cell phone plans can save your company tons of money over the course of a year. If you have a large company, or even a company with a few employees with cell phones, you may want to look into business cell phone plans. These plans can help to save you hundreds of dollars over the course of a month or year. Business cell phone plans are geared specifically towards companies who want to supply their employees with a cell phone. These companies are aware that their employees use the phone a lot, so they have come to expect large phone bills. But a business cell phone plan can help to cut down on some of these costs. The first step to finding a business cell phone plan that suits your needs is to contact all of the service providers and see what they can offer you as a business. Most service providers offer business cell phone plans for companies of every size. These providers may offer you a number of different discounts. First off, they may offer you a discount on the phone itself if you order a certain amount. Cell phones can be a very expensive purchase, and buying them in bulk may be able to save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. The most important discount is the actual minutes received and long distance calling. Business people tend to use their cell phones a lot; so having only a few hundred minutes a month will probably not be enough. Most service providers have business cell phone plans that offer over a thousand minutes for a great rate. They can also provide you with unlimited long distance for a certain price. Also, check into roaming charges when searching for business cell phone plans. Traveling salesmen will run into roaming charges quite often, so this is a question you do not want to forget to ask. Business cell phone plans are a must for any company that has employees using company paid phones. Even if you do not have a lot of employees, business cell phone plans are worth checking into. Using a Poker Calculator to Win Sit and Go Tournaments

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Marty_Smith]Marty Smith You may know already that sit and go action is where a good, solid poker bankroll can be built. You get to choose your maximum risk, and play against a variety of talent giving you plenty of value for your buy-in, unfortunately, most poker calculators are not designed for sit and go poker. They calculate odds based on pot size, position, draws, and betting - but only for cash games. If youre like me and play mostly sit and go poker, you have to make moves counter to your poker calculator recommendations to be in the money consistently. These situations will occur when you are short stacked, when you are playing against a maniac, when you are chip leader, when you are heads up, and when you are 3rd place of 3 left. Hopefully you dont end up short stacked too often (were you really playing correctly) and someone outdrew you on a bad call or two, but when you find yourself short, you MUST be strategizing to double up. The best way to double up is to get heads up with just one other player with a decent hand. Even if you are behind with KQos and get called with A9, you are in the right spot to double up, but not against more than one player. Your poker calculator will always say to fold KQos against a raise, but thats when you go your own way and isolate the raiser. You are mostly trying to avoid being dominated here so I look at QJ, or pocket 8s etc. and feel I am not a huge underdog and may even be slightly favored. Sometimes you will be up against a maniac, or at least a very loose player and know you are probably ahead. Your strategy here is to re-raise, isolate and not let him draw out. That means over-betting the pot against maniacs. Again, your poker calculator is just not going to agree with this strategy here. Surviving against such players means you have to create certain aggressive opportunities or they will just simply take you down hand by hand. Another important time to exercise your own judgment over your poker calculator is when you have a huge lead or big chip stack in comparison to your opponents. In such a scenario when you have someone out chipped like 5 or 6 to 1, it is imperative you make underdog calls that normally are a fold situation. With rising blinds, short stacks will be going in with a wide variety of hands so except for dominated Ace-X hole cards, you should be looking to get them all in. You wont win them all, but if you win one of three situations you are still the table captain. When I get down to heads up and 1st and 2nd place is on the line, I am quite aggressive with pre-flop raises with a wide variety of hands. I want to train my opponent into frustration. I will lay down to a re-raise but I want to set him up for an all-in where I am favored. In this, you must consistently raise, in particular from the button, holding MOST hole card combinations. If your odds calculator could scream at you, it would be doing so at this stage. Really, this is a time to turn it off, and play an aggressive mental game here. You have to go for the win here, and aim to be the favorite. Blinds are huge so take them when you can. Ok, youve made it to the money but find yourself in 3rd place. Yes, its a profit, but turning this spot into win money is a crucial skill for making your overall profit rate of sit and gos really take off. In saying that, aggression is the key. I look for any cards with chemistry, Ace X suited, two face cards, 97s, etc., any pp for example, and I am all-in forcing the others to make a tough decision. Your poker odds calculator simply wont understand this strategy so just turn the thing off, otherwise you will be blinded out 19 of 20 times while following its recommendations. You see the difference between 2nd and 3rd is minimal, so dont be concerned about that. What you want to be able to accomplish with this aggression is to get into 1st place at least one out of every three times you are in this scenario. That will ensure a profitable overall sit and go strategy for you while using your online poker odds calculator to get you into that position. Finding Freelance Writing Jobs - Join Us On The Job Search

By Niall Cinneide Finding freelance writing jobs require great skill, dedication and lots of patience. There are many qualifications that businesses look for prior to hiring an individual to fill their job vacancies though. When the potential applicant arrives, he or she must possess a good working knowledge of the tasks that the business person needs. If they dont there is sure to be someone else who does. Therefore, when looking for writing jobs, the applicant simply must make sure that they are the most qualified for the employment opportunities. Here are some helpful hints on getting the first assignment. Step One: Prepare. It is important that the individual be prepared for the different types of work that is available. For example, proofreading work is readily available to those who have the right talents. For those who are doing copy work, they will need to provide the right voice to entice the reader deeper into the website while getting the search engines to scream their name from the beginning. Step Two: Provide examples of work. It is essential that those who are looking for work be able to provide quality samples of the work they have done in the past. Seeing is believing in more ways than one when it comes to getting writing jobs. Step Three: Make the most out of existing relationships. By providing good quality work to those individuals who have offered employment, the individual will continue to have jobs offered to them by the business. And, by doing this more and more opportunities will be provided to them by other businesses that have heard about them through recommendations. When it comes to searching for those all important freelance jobs, look to the small ads or those websites that advertise them. For individuals who have a specific need or a specialized quality, it may make sense to search out companies who provide that type of service. Then, a relationship can be forged. If you follow these suggestions opportunities will be developed and success is around the corner. Don’t Quit Your Day Job! Convincing Your Boss To Let You Telecommute, Part 1 of 2

By Sharon Davis Are you desperately trying to find a telecommute job so that you can quit your current one? Hold on! Your job just might have the potential to be done from home. With the right approach, a little research and a good proposal, many employees are selling the idea of telecommuting to their employers. In this first segment, we focus on the steps you should take in order to determine whether or not your job is a candidate for telecommuting. Many jobs are well suited for telecommuting…and many arent. Your first step should be to evaluate your current job and determine whether or not it is feasible to do it from home. Ask yourself the following questions: Does your job depend on resources that are only available at the office? If your job only requires Internet access, phone and fax, it is definitely possible to do it from a home office. However, if you are a receptionist in a medical office, you probably have other responsibilities that require you to physically be there, i.e. having patients fill out paperwork and filing. Do you work well without supervision? Some people are perfectly content to work on their own. Others need the support of having a supervisor and co-workers nearby. Monitor yourself for a week. Be aware of how often you rely on others and how you would deal with it if you had been away from the office. In some cases, a supervisor may feel that getting phone calls from a remote employee is disruptive, while a quick question in the hallway is not. Do other companies offer telecommuting for your job type? Do some research and find out if its already being done. Having evidence of success with telecommuting can go a long way in convincing an employer that it can (and does) work. Does telecommuting fit with your company culture? If your company has a culture of empowerment and trust, telecommuting may be a perfect fit. If they have a more hands-on management style, it may not work. Think about how your company manages their employees and whether or not the hands-off style required for telecommuting is possible. Could you cope with the isolation? Some people crave office gossip, lunches with co-workers, water cooler chats and all the human interaction that comes with a traditional job environment. If this sounds like you, you may need to give serious thought to whether or not working remotely is for you- it may turn out to be more like solitary confinement! Here are some useful resources for evaluating your current job and for determining whether telecommuting is right for you: ====>Do You Have The Skills to Telecommute? from About.com ====>Is Telecommuting For You? In Part 2, we will discuss the ways that you can convince your boss to let you telecommute. ——————————– Sharon Davis is the Mom to two girls, the owner of 2Work-At-Home.Com, Work At Home Articles.net and the Editor of the site’s monthly ezine, America’s Home.
